Born in a hamlet called Lakkapuram near Rasipuram, Salem in 1939, Dr.L.S. Kanadasamy scored top in the examination conducted by Tamil Poet’s association, and later on he did his masters in Tamil at Madras University and won the most coveted Gold Medal which added to his laurels.
Dr LSK started his career as an ordinary school teacher and has raised himself as to what he is today-an an unforgettable personage. In 1972 he joined Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. While serving as the head of the department, he was instrumental in developing the magazine “Valarum Vellanmai” monthly magazine and was its Editor. His work focused more on farmer community and youth. He realized the hard working and brilliant community just needed confidence than anything else. He spend his day listening to them and helped them strategize and find solution for their issues. His reading extended from east to west in all areas and so his travel.
Dr LSK wanted to uplift the down trodden masses of Tamil Nadu; the tool he used was his powerful writing. He was confident that he can realize this dream of his if he was able to meet 1000 youth with Vision in each district. His target was the farmer community from which he came and the youth.
Dr LSK to his credit has 54 books on a variety of subjects like Self Improvement, books to uplift Farmers, technology in agriculture & novels too.
In 1989 he started “Thannambikkai” a monthly magazine which emphasis strongly only on Individual’s Self Improvement & Science, he never diluted or deviated from his track. He started “Thannambikkai” as 16 pages demy sized magazine, it had a circulation of 500 copies. The subscribers were none other than his friends, associates & staff.
Thanks to Late K. Krishanasamy Gounder and Dr. Dhamodarasamy Naidu of Sree Annapoorna Group, being close associates of Dr LSK, helped promote “Thannambikkai” by placing it in all the Annapoorna restaurants.
Thus began the journey of “Thannabikkai” magazine. Fate intervened and Dr LSK unexpectedly reached the heavenly board on 6th April, 1992, just when he was at the peak of his writing. It was an irreparable loss for his students and readers.
By the joint effort of Dr. LSK’s family and friends, the magazine has reached the magical figure of 20,000 copies in 15 years. With Circulation all over TN, not to mention “Thannambikkai” has also spread it wings to Andhra, Kerala & Mumbai. You could positively call it a Himalayan task for “Thannambikkai” is the only magazine in Tamil for Self Improvement. This magazine cannot be read in a lighter vein.
Righteous thoughts and Actions of Dr LSK keep the magazine going and would spread its message to the world at large.
